This article explores the relationship between the Word of God and the experience of young people in light of the opening chapters of the post-synodal apostolic exhortation Christus vivit. Through a reading of various biblical narratives, the author examines how the age and life experience of their protagonists contribute to understanding faith, vocation, and the response to God's call. The first part considers elderly figures of faith, including Abraham and Sarah, Zechariah and Elizabeth, Simeon and Anna, whose fidelity reveals the maturation of faith throughout life. The second part focuses on younger biblical figures, particularly David, Samuel, and Jeremiah, showing that youth is no obstacle to hearing God's call and undertaking a mission. The study examines the narrative patterns of biblical vocation accounts and emphasizes the importance of accompaniment in discerning God's call. Finally, it discusses the Gospel accounts of the rich young man and the prodigal son, highlighting freedom, detachment, conversion, and the capacity to begin again. The article concludes by presenting Jesus Christ as a model of youth open to the Father's plan and affirming the continuing relevance of Scripture for young people beginning their journey of faith.
