This article reflects on the integration of the preferential option for the poor and social commitment into catechetical processes, understanding them as constitutive dimensions of Christian formation rather than supplementary elements. Taking the personal encounter with Jesus Christ as the source of faith and charity, the author argues that authentic catechesis must foster sensitivity to human suffering and encourage active commitment to people experiencing poverty, vulnerability, and exclusion. Drawing on Scripture, the Church's magisterium, and the 2020 Directory for Catechesis, he proposes explicitly incorporating the social and charitable dimension into every aspect and stage of Christian formation. He also advocates organizing practical experiences of solidarity, volunteering, and service, adapted to the ages and circumstances of those receiving catechesis and accompanied by opportunities to reflect on their experiences. The article emphasizes the evangelizing value of encounters with people living in poverty, who are not merely recipients of assistance but also individuals capable of sharing valuable human and spiritual insights. Finally, it highlights the importance of Catholic Social Teaching and the consistent witness of the entire Christian community in forming disciples committed to justice, fraternity, and building a Church at the service of the poor.
