Editorial: Catechesis in Contemporary Cultural Contexts

Abstract

This editorial introduces the fourth issue of Resonancias Catequéticas, devoted to the relationship between catechesis and contemporary cultural contexts, continuing the examination of the 2020 Directory for Catechesis begun in the previous issue. Drawing on the tenth chapter of the Directory, it emphasizes the need to understand the social, religious, and cultural settings in which faith is transmitted and to foster dialogue between the Gospel and contemporary cultures. Guided by the principle of fidelity to both God and the human person, it highlights the importance of pastoral discernment in responding to the challenges and opportunities of the present time. The editorial then introduces the issue's contributions, which address cultural pluralism and complexity, evangelization in digital culture, the preferential option for the poor and social commitment, and ecumenism in contexts of religious diversity. It also presents a reflection on the apostolic letter Antiquum ministerium, through which Pope Francis instituted the lay ministry of catechist. Finally, it highlights two studies concerning the relationship between catechesis and liturgy and the place of catechesis in Catholic schools. The editorial calls for renewed catechetical reflection through the inculturation of faith and the evangelization of culture.
